Latest Updates from Our Project:
We did it!
– Sun, Sep 24, 2023 at 10:25:28 AM
We did it. 186 backers. 256% funded. Thank you so much!!!
We couldn't have done any of this without your support and enthusiasm. This campaign has been incredible, and it's all because of you. We broke our record for most backers in a campaign thus far, and I'm ridiculously thankful.
We also unlocked the final stretch goal:
This means everyone gets a stickerized version of the virgin cover art by Alex Riegel! So cool!
So, what's next? The first thing is to fix “errored” pledges.
Over the next couple weeks, Kickstarter will process the funds. They will also try and correct what they term “errored” pledges. This generally happens when a backer's credit card has expired and needs to be updated.
Kickstarter gives us just a few days to correct these pledges, so make sure to update those or you will not be able to receive your rewards. And that's no fun!
As I write this, there are 12 people with errored pledges, so please check your inboxes in case you received a message from Kickstarter.
(Please message me if you have any issues correcting your pledge. I want to ensure you get all your rewards.)
The Timeline:
Once the funds are processed, you’ll be receiving a Backerkit survey that will collect the address where you’d like us to ship your books, as well as the name you’d like to see appear in the special “Thank You” page at the back of the digital edition. You'll also have the chance to add any other add-ons you'd like to grab before the art heads to print.
When you receive those surveys, please respond ASAP. Once those surveys are back, I’ll email the digital rewards. Meanwhile, I’ll send the pages off to the printer to get the books into your hands ASAP. I’ll keep you posted along the way.
And a reminder:
There's still time to snag the crossover print between MANDRILL P.I. and TURNER FAMILY TERRORS, created by MANDRILL P.I. artist Carlos Trigo!
And all you've gotta do to get the print is back both campaigns (if you back both digitally, you'll get the hi-res file; back physically, and you'll get the physical version). Can't wait to send it your way :)
This campaign exceeded my wildest expectations, and it's all thanks to your support. I can't wait to share MANDRILL P.I. with you. And as always, it's time for my favorite part of these updates: sharing projects by fellow creators.

1) PATH OF THE PALE RIDER by LAURIE CALCATERRA
Super cool concept by Laurie. It's a Western Apocalypse where a cowboy searches for why dead no longer die.
What it's about: What would you do if upon death, your soul didn’t leave your body? You are now trapped in decaying flesh and the world no longer makes sense. Forgetfulness, violence, or indifference set in. People, animals, insects, … the death process has been broken for all. 10 years into the apocalypse, most people just try to scrape by, but Jude St. Clair is tirelessly searching for the answer to the question: Why do the Dead no longer die? What will he discover? Government Conspiracy? Chemical Spill? Meteor from space? SENTIENT YOGURT?! Come with Jude on his path through undead bears, famine, riots, and the fall of society as he tries to survive long enough to uncover truths, each more unbelievable than the next. You don’t want to miss this extraordinary journey through the wasteland. Can Jude heal the world or succumb to an eternity of decay?
Here's another installment of the supernatural crime mystery spanning forty years by Jon Dexter. If you enjoy hard-boiled crime mysteries likes True Detective and L.A Confidential or spooky stories like Stephen King's IT, and Supernatural, you'll love this eight issue limited comic series!
What it's about: Detective Donald Mackinder is a cop who is short on friends and time as he investigates a serial killer who has displayed his latest victim over the burial grounds Mackinder's father (Bobby) and uncle (Ricky) buried multiple bodies forty years ago during their war with a rival bootlegger gang
This is a super cool one-shot crossover between two Kickstarter sensations, The Relentless Lark and Bullet Adventures (created by my friend, Randy Stone)!
What it's about:
Lainie Choi and Jane Robinson have more in common than they or anyone else might realize. To start, they're both superheroes. Super-speed skipped a generation and now Lainie has her superhero grandfather's powers while Jane's been trained by her father since she was 12 to replace him as a globe-trotting vigilante.
And what else? They're also both teenage girls having trouble learning how to talk to their moms about these responsibilities that have been thrust on them. Lainie still hasn't told her mom. And Jane's been fighting with hers ever since she started putting on her father's cape.
They both could use somebody to talk to. And as fate would have it, they're set to bump into each other at Brooklyn's hottest new, hyper-specific food festival Cornucopia!
What first presents as a chance to bond unexpectedly with a stranger turns into the fight of their lives as a disgruntled restauranteur, the Zoo-Chef, unleashes fiery mayhem on the festival. Fast friends will have to see if they can become even faster allies in their first ever crossover!
Don't miss this ridiculously cool crossover print!

Hello again!
I love the comic Turner Family Terrors by my friend, Rob Krisch. And I am SO EXCITED he's launched the next issue today.
And guess what? MANDRILL P.I. artist Carlos Trigo created this super cool MANDRILL P.I. x TFT crossover print:
TFT is the comic you should be reading. It’s part Scooby Doo, part Monster Squad, part Big Trouble in Little China, and all heart. It’s pinnacle monster-of-the-week style entertainment, if all the monsters were Russian and got together to enact a conspiracy to end the world.
The writing by Rob Krisch is top notch. It melds humor and drama into a true page-turner you won’t be able to put down. The art by Aleksandar Bozic manages to perfectly weave emotionally poignant expression with off-the-wall hilarity, all while ensuring the proper sense of horror and dread.
And all you've gotta do to get the print is back both campaigns (if you back both digitally, you'll get the hi-res file; back physically, and you'll get the physical version). Can't wait to send it your way :)
Everyone who backs this final week will receive a free digital copy of the absolutely delightful Robyn #1 by Simon Birks & Ege Avci. This is a super cool retelling of the classic Robin Hood story with some creative twists and amazing art.
It would be a huge help if you'd keep spreading the word about MANDRILL P.I. on your socials. The more people that back, the cooler the rewards!
Thanks again for backing! And now, for my favorite part of these updates, highlighting other projects by fellow creators.

1) SAMSON #1 by BEN LACY
My friend Ben Lacy is back with another ridiculously cool comic.
What it's about:
Samuel and Solomon Zucker were twins taken to Auschwitz in 1942. Nazi scientists used them as guinea pigs at part of Project Uberfuhrer, their effort to create a super soldier.
Instead, they created their greatest enemy - SAMSON! But now, years after the war, Samuel discovers that the original Uberfhurer may still be alive and that Project Uberfuhrer may be up and running again.
Captivating story, great art, and super cool early backer rewards. Don't miss out!
Another SUPER COOL concept. The paths of vampires, werewolves, and Frankenstein's Monster collide in 1897 Japan. Think Seven Samurai meets Penny Dreadful.
This is the first of three black and white 44-page issues—all packed with fantasy and horror, set against the backdrop of 1897 Japan. MONSTER OR MASTER is a story of three cursed killers as they collide.
One wants to take over the world, one wants to save it, and one is on the run.
MJ is back with another delightful issue of Black Ball!
Magic! Murder! Mystery!
In an alternate 1920s, America's 18th Amendment outlaws both alcohol and spellcraft--the technology once used to power modern American lives. Emily Trent has grown up in a Practical household, never once thinking of Arcane Science. That is, until her sister Amelia is murdered! An unsent letter in a hidden spellcrafting kit connects Amelia to the Black Ball, New York's most infamous speakeasy and spellcraft market. Now Emily must dive into the world of spell slingers and rum runners to find the truth!
In this next exciting installment, a new clue has been discovered! Emily brings in her best friends, Maude and Henry, to help with the investigation. Upon a second look at the mysterious spellcrafting kit hidden in Amelia's bedroom, they discover a hidden file, full of complicated spellcrafting diagrams...
So what does that mean? It means all physical backers get a free sticker of Manny and Ernie surrounded by creepiness, and everybody will be receiving a free digital version of the hilarious Bulletproof Chicken comic by John Westhoff & Bobgar Ornelas!
PLUS, it also means it's time to announce the 3nd stretch goal! And here we go:
The next unlock will mean a free stickerized virgin version of the MANDRILL P.I. Issue #5 cover art by Alex Riegel! And once we pass 160 backers, everyone will get to carry on reading more noir comics, because you'll receive a free digital copy of the AMAZING comic Espresso Detective by Eric Erdek.
What's it about?
A hard-boiled Mexican detective fights depression, Lovecraft gods and human trafficking in noir Los Angeles with wit & espresso fueled powers.
Super cool, huh?
Thank you again for backing MANDRILL P.I.! I'll be back soon with another update, but until then, my favorite part of these updates: highlighting other projects you may be interested in.

Indie comic fans, meet the creators of tomorrow at this epic show!
The all-new Indie Comics Creator Con (IC3), a comic book convention focusing on creators and people who support independent art and ideas, will take place Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Southern Connecticut State University.
Indie Comics Creator Con will be an event, a forum, a marketplace, a touchstone, and a summit for independent people who create comics of every kind and those who appreciate and support them, as well as collect the unique and freewheeling things they make. While other comic cons tend to reflect what's happening at your local cinematic metroplex and unduly represent decades-old corporate-owned "intellectual property," IC3 is designed to amplify the voices, vision, and passion of new art, new ideas, and unique sensibilities in the artform and storytelling medium that we collectively call comics.

Hello again!
I got a really cool email from Kickstarter: MANDRILL P.I. has been selected as a “Project We Love!” This is a huge honor, and I'm incredibly excited by the news.
But I'm more excited for the amazing support you have shown for this project. Thank you again!

And now, my favorite part of these updates: project recommendations! Click the images or links to be redirected:
1) HOSPICE: ONE DAMNEDGOOD THING by RUSSELL NOHELTY
Russell is back with another super cool comic project, this time a shared universe concept with some of my favorite creators on the indie scene--including Frank Martin (Grimm Space), Travis Gibb (Cthulhu Invaded Wonderland), Jamie Primack (Binary Star), Michael Watson (Fivestar), and David Byrne (Stake). (I'll be highlighting the projects by these other creators in future updates, since they're all live now!).
One Damned Good Thing is a one-shot horror comic set in the Hospice universe about a terminally ill prisoner who is given a reprieve to live out his final days at a beautiful hospice. He quickly finds out that this hospice is more sinister than he could have ever imagined.
The art is super cool, the writing is top notch, and it's an incredibly cool concept.
If you know me, then you know I love Urban Fantasy (hell, it's why I write so frequently in the genre!). And my friend Morgan Quaid has a super cool concept I'd love for you to check out!
It's about a young witch who travels the human world guarding against unearthly creatures who threaten to tip the balance. But she's not just any young witch.
She walks the world of humankind, wearing the skin of a young woman, devouring death to power her gift. She sees beyond sight, hears beyond the sound of mortal ears.
If you like Chew, Bitter Root, Nocturnals, or Shadowman, then you'll love this comic.
